Mark Bottrill, Director of Swimming

Mark Bottrill has been a personal coach to two major games teams for his athletes, in 1995 the Pan Pacific
Championships in Atlanta, and in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
With a twenty year coaching career that has involvement at every level of swimming to his credit, Mark enjoys the
swimming team environment and being a part of improving swimmers to their maximum potential.
He maintains as Director of Swimming a ‘team coaching’ environment which utilizes the high skill level of all his
fulltime professional staff coaches in regular practice conditions. In this manner all coaches are involved at all
levels, in all different aspects of the program from the young developing swimmers through to the senior group of
the club.

A graduate of the University of Alberta, Mark and his family have been Lower Mainland residents for the past decade.

Serge Score, Coach

Serge Score grew up in Burnaby and started his swimming career with the Hyack Swim Club at the age of 12.
He swam with them until he was 22 and moved to Victoria to swim for the University of Victoria, where he was
Canadian Interuniversity Swimming champion in two events. He also graduated, with honours, in the Fine Arts
program.
Although a provincial champion, Serge also exceled as a senior; taking part in three Olympic Trials,
and part of the Canadian National team in 1983, 84, 85, and 87. He competed in the Pan Pacific Championships,
Hoboel Games, Tri-meet (Russia/England/Canada), and two World University Championships. He won 13 individual
national championship medals in his career. As a national team member he finaled in every international meet
that he competed in.

During his swimming/school career, Serge was a part-time coach, and upon his retirement at the age of 26
(at that time the oldest swimmer in Canada) he enrolled in the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
Serge has been coaching full-time since 1989. He has coached for the Island Swim Club and the University of
Calgary Swim Club. He now finds himself developing some of the best age group swimmers in Canada. Along with
fellow coach, Sue Todd, he was awarded the Provincial Development Coach of the Year for 2001-2002.
Serge's other passions include competing in triathlons and drawing / painting and sculpture.

Sue Todd, Assistant Coach

Born and raised in Penticton, Sue grew up swimming in the interior lakes and decided her dream job was to be a
lifeguard and teach swimming.
Sue has worked for the City of Coquitlam for the past 8 and 1/2 years and started with the Hyack Swim Club in
November of 1997 as the grassroots coach.
Sue is a qualified level 2 coach and has her level 3 technical qualification. She is currently working on her
level 3 practical to qualify as a level 3 coach. She enjoys working with all her swimmers.

I was a serious competitive swimmer for many years. I swam for the University of British Columbia and the Pacific
Dolphins.
I have recently finished my teaching degree at UBC and now a TOC in Surrey and Delta.
I am very excited to be coaching again and thrilled that it is with the Hyack Swim Club.
