The Hyack Swim Club offers following programs of training:

Grass Roots 1 and 2 Programs
This program is our entry level group. The main focus in these levels is to introduce
the swimmer to the four competitive swimming strokes as well as the various rules on how
to swim each stroke properly. The participants in this group also learn to perform proper
turns and dives for each of the strokes.
Grassroots 1 1 is a program designed specifically for swimmers who may
not be able to swim one length without assistance. This group trains twice per week.
Grassroots 2 2 is for swimmers capable of easily completing one length
without assistance and progressing to multiple lengths. Our objective for the swimmers in these
groups is ensure they learn about the basics swimming while HAVING FUN. The coach to swimmer
ratio is at the optimum level to maximize the learning environment.
Practices:
Grassroots 1 - 2 x 45 minute sessions per week
Grassroots 2 - 3 x 45 minute sessions per week

meets will see the groups combine at one pool or the other.
Pre-requisite: Aquaquest 5 to 6 (minimum age 5 to maximum of 10)

Olympic Way White Program
Olympic Way White is our second level of programming in our swim club. Here, swimmers are
able to swim the freestyle and backstroke fairly well and they also are in the process of refining the
breaststroke and learning the butterfly swim strokes. The main focus in this level is developing the swimmer's
ability to swim the four competitive strokes to a basic level where they can demonstrate proper stroke
mechanics. The concept of training is introduced at this level where they begin to use training aids such
as kickboards and pull-buoys to assist in their physical development. Our objective for the swimmers in
this group is to continue the FUN aspect in every practice session started at the grassroots level. We also
advance each swimmer's stroke technique, swimming speed, and overall fitness.
Practices: 3 x 70 minute sessions per week(10 minutes dryland, 60 minutes in water )
There are "twin" groups operating at each pool, special camps and
meets will see the groups combine at one pool or the other.
Pre-requisite: Aquaquest 6 to 7 OR completion of Grassroots program (minimum age 7 to maximum of 10)

Olympic Way Black Program
Olympic Way Black is our third level of programming our swim club. Here, swimmers
are able to swim the three of the four competitive swim strokes well for short distances. The main focus
in this level is improving athlete's ability to swim the four competitive strokes as well as advance their
fitness level. These swimmers also continue their refining of the competitive starts and turns for each of
the four strokes. The concept of training is advanced upon from the concepts taught at the OW White level.
Our objective for the swimmers in this group is to continue the FUN aspect in every practice session started
at the grassroots level. We also advance each swimmer's stroke technique, swimming speed, and overall fitness.
Practices: 3 x 70 minute sessions per week (10 minutes dryland, 60 minutes in water)
There are "twin" groups operating at each pool, special camps and
meets will see the groups combine at one pool or the other.
Pre-requisite: Aquaquest 9 to 10 OR completion of Olympic Way White program (minimum age 7 to maximum of 11)

Regional Program
Regional is our highest level of programming for swimmers under 11 years of age in our swim club.
Here, swimmers are able to swim the four competitive swim strokes well for medium distances. The main
focus in this level is improving athlete's ability to swim the four competitive strokes for longer distances
as well as advance their fitness level. These swimmers also continue their refining of the competitive starts
and turns for each of the four strokes. The concept of training is advanced upon from the concepts taught
at the development level. Our objective for the swimmers in this group is to continue the FUN aspect in every
practice session started at the grassroots level. We also advance each swimmer's stroke technique, swimming
speed, and overall fitness.
Practices: 4 x 90 minute sessions per week (30 minutes dryland, 60 minutes in water)
There are "twin" groups operating at each pool, special camps and
meets will see the groups combine at one pool or the other.
Pre-requisite: Aquaquest 12 or completion of OW Black/Development (minimum age 9 to maximum of 11)

Junior Provincial Program
Junior Provincial is for athletes who have graduated from our Olympic Way and Regional programs and are
working towards training competency at the provincial level. The main focus in this level is improving
athlete's ability to swim the four competitive strokes for longer distances as well as advance their fitness
level in order for them to progress into the Provincial group. These swimmers also continue their refining
of the competitive starts and turns for each of the four strokes. The concept of training is advanced upon
from the concepts taught at the Regional level.Our objective for the swimmers in this group is to continue
the FUN aspect in every practice session started at the grassroots level. We also advance each swimmer's
stroke technique, swimming speed, and overall fitness. The performance objective for this level is to advance
the swimmer from AA to AAA level.
Practices: 6 x per week
Mornings - Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday
Evenings - Monday, Wednesday, & Friday

Provincial Program
Provincial is for athletes who have graduated from our Regional and Junior
Provincial programs. Here, swimmers are able to swim the four competitive swim strokes well at all distances.
The main focus in this level is improving athlete's ability to swim the four competitive strokes for longer
distances as well as advance their fitness level in order for them to progress into the next group (Junior
National & Provincial Elite). These swimmers also continue their refining of the competitive starts and
turns for each of the four strokes. Concepts such as nutrition, mental skills acquisition, and energy
systems are taught to the athletes in this group.
Our objective for the swimmers in this group is to begin
to excel at the provincial level both at regional and provincial level competitions. Exposure to
interprovincial competition begins and travel competitions become part of the program. Every swimmer
graduating this program will be able to swim every event and perform each stroke proficiently. We also
advance each swimmer's stroke technique, swimming speed, and overall fitness. Athletes in this group are
expected to begin to approach the sport of swimming as their primary activity and are able to attend all
scheduled practice sessions and competitions (including training camps) without having interference from
commitments to other sports. The importance and appreciation of following the training program and evolving
one's fitness levels becomes apparent.
Practices: 8 x per week. Please refer to the pool schedule document at the end of this
package for CGP and CCAC specific pool training times.

Pre-requisite: Graduation from Regional or Junior Provincial programs and approval
of Director of Swimming (minimum age 11 to a maximum of 14).

Provincial Elite Program
This group is intended to provide athletes who have graduated from Provincial or Junior Provincial group.
The ability range of the athletes in this group range from AA to Junior National level. This program is
specifically designed for athletes wanting to further their swimming enjoyment or to achieve the highest
levels of performance at the provincial level. Multi-sport athletes or swimmers with other important interests
may be more suited to this group environment and commitment level. Here, swimmers are able to swim the four
competitive swim strokes well at all distances. The main focus in this level is improving athlete's skill
level and ability to swim the four competitive strokes for longer distances in order for them to progress
into the next training group (Youth National). The training schedule incorporates sessions with the Youth
National group with the programming direction set forth by the Youth National coach. These swimmers also
continue their refinement of the competitive starts and turns for each of the four strokes. Concepts such
as nutrition, mental skills acquisition, and energy systems are taught to the athletes in this group.
Our objective for the swimmers in this group is to excel at the provincial level both at regional and
provincial level competitions. Every swimmer graduating this program will be able to swim every event
and perform each stroke proficiently. We also advance each swimmer's stroke technique, swimming speed,
and overall fitness.
Practices: 8 x per week. Regular schedule is exclusively at the Canada Games Pool.
Mornings - Monday, Tuesday, Friday, & Saturday
Evenings - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday
Pre-requisite: Completion of Provincial or Junior Provincial groups and approval of
Director of Swimming (minimum age 13 to maximum of 17).
The following advanced levels operate by a team coaching environment.

Youth National Program
Youth National program is for athletes who have achieved Youth National standards
or have finaled at Provincial Championships and are ready to dedicate themselves totally to the sport to
maximize their potential. This is the second highest program offered at the Hyack Swim Club. Training occurs
six days a week including water, weights, and daily dryland sessions. Athletes here begin to train efficiently
and effectively on a consistent basis. Mastering skills is an integral part of the daily routine.
Our objective for the swimmers in this group is to look beyond the provincial level towards excelling at the
national level (Jr. National and Youth National level). The athletes in this group are expected to move towards
attaining Sr. National standards. Athletes in this group are also expected to be self-motivated and
self-disciplined when approaching their training program. Race strategies and tactics are refined at this level
both in the practice and competition environment.
Practices: 9 x per week
Mornings - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday
Evenings - Monday to Friday
Pre-requisite: Completion of Provincial group, application for membership by athlete,
and approval of Director of Swimming (minimum age 12 to maximum of 15).

Senior Program
The athletes in this program have achieved National standards or are within two percent of the standard.
Athletes in this group are expected to be totally dedicated to achieve their maximum potential. Training occurs
six days a week including water, weights, and daily dryland sessions. Athletes here learn to master how to
train efficiently and effectively on a consistent basis. Mastering skills is an on-going part of the daily
routine.Our objective for the swimmers in this group is to excel at the national level (Jr. National, Youth
National, and Senior National level). The program is also geared towards preparing the athletes to compete
at the International level and achieve performances which enable them to be selected to various national
team competitions. Race strategies and tactics are refined at this level both in the practice and competition
environment.
Practices: 10 x per week. Regular schedule is exclusively at the Canada Games Pool.
Mornings - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday
Evenings - Monday to Friday
Pre-requisite: Graduation from Junior National Program, application for membership by athlete, approval
of Director of Swimming (minimum age 14 to university age).

National 2:30 Program
National 2:30 program is our highest level of programming in the club. This group is
designed for those athletes who have shown complete dedication to furthering their performance to place in
the top 8 at Senior Nationals or performance at the international level. Athletes in this group have shown
strong desire to master the requisite skills necessary for elite performance.
Practices: 10 x per week. Regular schedule is exclusively at the Canada Games Pool.
Mornings - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday
Evenings - Monday to Friday
Pre-requisite: Senior National standard, application for membership by athlete, approval of Director of
Swimming.
