Merlin Appoints Barry Hagglund as Vice President, Engineering

Burnaby, BC - April 23, 2002 - Merlin Technologies (OTCBB: MLSW) today announced that it has appointed Barry Hagglund as Vice President, Engineering. Merlin is the developer of EssentialServer^TM network attached storage (NAS) appliances and the SecurDVR^TM for security and loss prevention.

Barry has over 18 years of product development, engineering and operations management experience. As Director, Product Development at PMC-Sierra until early 2002, he was responsible for all divisional product development and planning including hardware, software and technology strategies. During his tenure, he managed the development of a number of key intellectual properties that were subsequently patented. Prior to PMC-Sierra, Barry worked in a variety of technical and product management positions at Fujitsu (FNC) and Nortel. He was awarded a BSEE with distinction from the University of Saskatchewan in 1984.

In his new position, Barry will lead a dedicated product development team focused on ensuring the company remains at the technological forefront of the network attached storage and security/loss prevention markets.
